Fixing track down

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of fixing Scalextric Sport track down to a
baseboard? I have seen the scalextric track fixing clips, but can't really
use them because my track runs tight against the ''side wall' of the
baseboard, which makes it impossible to fix the clips to certain parts of
the outer side of the track.

It might sound a bit drastic, but I was wondering about screwing the track
down either side of the lanes, but before doing so, just wanted to see if
anyone had any other ideas.

Thanks in advance.

I have screwed track sections down and, whilst it works, it's a pig of a
job. Drilling the hole is easy but then you should countersink it. This
is hard because the track is so flexible that it's difficult to get it
smooth and so difficult to get the depth just right. Then the screws
have to be set at the right depth so that:

1) the screw head is flush with the track surface,
2) the screws hold the track and
3) the screws don't depress the track surface.

Then, it's a pound to a pinch of **** that you'll decide they look so
awful that you'll have to paint the screw heads black.

All of this is do-able but very tedious so my advice is don't or, if you
feel you have no other choice, do the minimum.

I did this with some Ninco track to make the ends of a bridge. (Two
straights each end, track curving up then track curving flat again.) I
will soon have to do similar with Sport track and I am hoping the clips
will do the trick so I can avoid using screws.

I used hot glue on my current Sport track setup but I'm considering screwing
it down next time. The hot glue seems to work fine 'though.

Hi Neil,

If you screw the track down make sure it is in a controlled temperature
location. Expansion or contraction will split and buckle a track attached
down this way.

I have attach down track by trapping the edge with a large flat headed nail
(the head is large not the nail) This captures the track but allows for
movement.

Hope this helps

Cheers and Happy New Year

I've got an 80' two lane non-elevation setup and don't find I have a need to
attach the track down.

What does the track rest on? Is the track moving when you race?

Thanks to everyone for their input. Its not a question of the track moving,
its just that I need to be able to lean the baseboard up againsty the wall
when the track is not in use.

oooh, now I get it! That would be an issue if you didn't secure the track :)

Sorry to say I can't help but I'm sure someone here can.

Good luck
