Hello.
I recently bought a large amount of Micro Scalextric track from EBay.

However, the cars dont run very well on the track (i.e stopping all the
time)

I have tried cleaning some of the track with methylated spirits but the
performance is still pretty crap.

Any recommendations for cleaning it up so the cars will run smoothly??
Cheers

When you fasten the track together, rub the connections with fine grit
sandpaper and make sure they make good contact.

Did you get anywhere with this - I just found some micros scalextric in a
box to be collected by the bin men and thoguh I'd add it to my (newish)
track.

However it's exactly as you describe - although when I connect some new
track to the end of a dirty section, that runs fine - so its the contact
between the car braids and the metal runners that's bad. I wonder if a
gentle run with fine (wet and dry) abrasive paper would take the corrosion
off.

Will have to wait till the weekend to find out I think

I used very fine wet and dry papaer to clean some HO track that had not been
used for 30 years. Make sure that you wipe it with a clean cloth afterwards.
Keep replacing the cloth until it does not get dirty.

Paul,

The steel power rails have probably oxidized over the past 30 years. You can
use fine emory cloth to clean them initially, and then use Automatic
Transmission Fluid (ATF) from time to time to keep them from oxidizing
again.

Wipe the track down completely to remove any metal dust that may have been
left behind when you used emory cloth, or it will be attracted to the motor
and its magnets.

Pay careful attention to the rail joints at the ends of each track section.
These also need to be cleared of any rust.

Best regards from Milwaukee, WI U.S.A.
